What is the Broken Bear?

This is an innovative program where people customize stuffed animals, which are then presented to a children’s charitable organization. As many children’s charities deal with kids who have some kind of malady or are differently-abled, the stuffed animals will also have a challenging feature or issue.

What is Kintsugi?  The Japanese art of repairing broken things by mending the areas of breakage with a lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver or platinum. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object to be recognized and celebrated, rather than something to disguise or be ashamed of.

Key Aspects to Consider:

Indoor
This is NOT an off-the-shelf program
Training is highly customized to YOUR specific outcomes and organization
Timing - 2 - 4 hours (more time = more value)
Pairs VERY well with a team building activity, should you choose a FULL DAY
Concepts learned in training are applied and put into practice in the team building program

The Event Concept:

Each person will be given a series of supplies and a stuffed animal and general instructions with the goal of creating a meaningful and unique gift for a child in need.
For example: A group might remove a limb from their bear and sew the “wound” backup with “gold” or “silver” string. The gold and silver is a part of the bear and viewed in a positive light. A way to show kids or whoever to embrace their flaws and imperfections.
