Fantasy Island is an advanced version of our Cardboard Boat Build. Teams are tasked with building their own dream island — a floating structure strong enough to carry three to four team members on board.

It's a bigger, bolder engineering challenge that asks your team to work cohesively, think creatively, and bring their A-game to an exciting competition.And like the boat build, the real test comes on the water, where teams find out whether their island truly floats.

Step 1

Welcome and team formation

Teams meet each other and the facilitators, get divided into balanced groups, and receive their building theme.

Introduction to the cause

Teams learn which local food bank the donation will support and the impact their build will have.

Design and planning

Each team plans a themed structure, figuring out how to engineer it from cans and non-perishable food.

Build the island

Teams construct their structure, dividing the work and racing the clock to bring the design to life.

Reinforce and decorate

Teams shore up weak points and add personality — part engineering, part showmanship.

Launch with crew aboard

The big test: islands hit the water with team members aboard to see whose dream actually floats.
